Motivation
Everyone is motivated by something. My motivation is building a safe and happy space for myself and my family. And chocolate.
For dogs, motivation can come in many forms. Food is often a big one, as are toys, play and praise. These are simple rewards we can use in our training.
But there are also bigger motivations to consider - things like safety, control and even love. These things are important to our dogs as well as us, and although we use rewards to reinforce the behaviours we like to see, what we’re really doing is giving our dog access to those bigger, life-affirming motivators.
